The changes you bring

He never used to raise his voice, but now that you’re around he shouts
would have thought after all our battles at sea with you,
that I’d come to know it wasn’t me he was angry with, but you.
But I don’t. I stand there, fingers dripping excess anxiety to the floorboards
with his voice echoing off the walls and yours scratching against my skull.
You may wrap around the entire Earth, have depths that are unknown,
carry ships on your goosebumps and bring down countries with your breath,
but in those moments, it’s not you I fear. It’s losing him.
